IFIF is pleased to support Laurent Bellec’s latest artistic project of a photographic encyclopedia dedicated to animal nutrition factories around the world. With this project, Laurent aimed to create the largest-ever photographic collection of architectural images of factories in the animal feed sector from around the world.
According to Laurent, these “show a contemporary heritage, are a reflection of an industrial period and constitute tomorrow’s historical database. It is a unique collection, a marker in the history of work and industry. As such, the encyclopedia meets the standards of museum collections. It has its place among documentary collections of the contemporary heritage of functional buildings and architecture”.
IFIF, through our members from around the world, has a deep connection with Laurent Bellec’s art and photography. Laurent’s photographs capture the magnitude of the compound feed industry, whose factories are part of the landscape of several regions all over the world, contributing to the safe nutrition of animals to produce safe and healthy food products. Seen through the talented artistic eyes of Laurent, the photographs not only capture the architectural essence of the industrial feed plant, but they also demonstrate that photography is a universal language that enables us to meet and engage with any culture, language and country in the world, without barriers.
In his photographic journey across the world, Laurent took pictures in Australia, Brazil, Europe, Japan and the United States to develop this largest ever photographic collection of feed plants architecture. IFIF members who participated include the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation Europe (FEFAC), the Japan Feed Manufacturers Association (JFMA), the Stock Feed Manufacturers’ Council of Australia (SFMCA) and the Brazilian Feed Industry Association (Sindirações).
Dr. Daniel Bercovici, IFIF Chairman, highlights in the accompanying booklet to the Feed Mills Encyclopedia 2011-2021: “IFIF believes that only by working together with all stakeholders in the feed and food chain, including governments, the private sector and non-governmental groups, can we meet the demands of 60% more food, including animal proteins like beef, poultry, fish and dairy products in the future. And it is a future that we should envision as a future built together, by all of us, just like Laurent’s photographs capture both the past and the future, the timeless and the present at the same time.”
