5th Global Feed & Food Congress brings together global feed & food chain

The Honourable Mehmet Danis, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Turkey, officially opened the 5th anniversary edition of the Global Feed & Food Congress in Antalya, Turkey with over 900 Delegates from around the world.

Antalya, Turkey – The Honourable Mehmet Danis, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Turkey, today officially opened the 5th anniversary edition of the Global Feed & Food Congress (GFFC), organised by the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) in cooperation with the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) and hosted by the Turkish Feed Manufacturers’ Association (TÜRKİYEM-BİR), with technical support provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Joel Newman, IFIF Chairman, Ruud Tjissens, FEFAC President, Ulku Karakus, President of TÜRKİYEM-BİR and the Honourable Yuriko Shoji, FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and FAO Representative for Turkey, joined the Minister to open the Congress and welcome the over 900 international delegates representing the global feed and food chain to Antalya, Turkey.

In his opening remarks, Minister Danis underlined the importance of the agricultural sector both for Turkey and for the whole world, as a vital part of the economy as well as of society. He added that the 5th Global Feed & Food Congress with the theme ‘Equity and Prosperity for all’ is a strong effort to explore key topics that will drive a more equitable production and distribution of food around the world.

Mr. Joel Newman, IFIF Chairman, highlighted that “the next two days are an important opportunity for industry, experts and governments to come together to discuss critical issues affecting all of us, including sustainability, food security, trade, regulations and innovation and R&D. The theme of the 5th GFFC, ‘Equity and Prosperity for all’, reflects our shared vision to provide safe, affordable, nutritious and sustainable animal protein sources for an expanding global population of 9 billion people by 2050.”

Mr. Ruud Tjissens, FEFAC President, told GFFC delegates “to face the challenges in our ever changing world, the feed and food industry should strive for sustainable development, unlocking the potential in different countries and to strive for harmonization. But the latter we have to do in a practical manner, taking the political realities in the world as a starting point. We should explore strategies that do not oppose the political reality, but that work as practical as possible and which are achievable.”

Mr. Ulku Karakus, President of TÜRKİYEM-BİR, who is also the host of this GFFC, said “we are absolutely delighted and honoured to host this global event coinciding with our successful biannual TUYEM Congress.” Addressing the challenge of feeding 9 billion people by 2050, Mr. Karakus added “the 5th GFFC theme ‘Equity and prosperity for all’ underlines the need to address fair growth in livestock and poultry production. Turkey is a main bridge between Europe, Asia and Africa in terms of trade, transportation and transport of energy sources and is well positioned to support efforts to meet the increased future demand for feed and food in Turkey and in the region.”

Over 70 world-class speakers, including CEOs, leaders, and experts from global feed & food companies, international organizations and the scientific community, will provide their insights and expertise at the GFFC sessions & workshops that cover the whole feed manufacturing and food processing value chain, with a special focus on Sustainability, Markets & Trade, Global Regulations & Trade Facilitation, Biosecurity along the Feed & Food Chain, Animal Nutrition, Innovation and R&D.

The 5th GFFC also features an international exhibition which brings together over 60 world-class organizations from the feed & food chain as sponsors and exhibitors who are showcasing their products and services in the dedicated Congress Facility in parallel to the GFFC plenaries and workshops.
