ICCF launches public consultation on ‘Feed Ingredient Effectiveness Assessment – General Recommendation’

An Expert Working Group under the umbrella of the International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF), composed of experts drawn from the ICCF founding members has developed a new guidance document on ‘FeedIngredient Effectiveness Assessment – General Recommendation’.

The ICCF Steering Committee adopted the draft Guidance Document for Public Consultation on 05 January 2026.

The public consultation on the Guidance Document ‘Feed Ingredient Effectiveness Assessment – General Recommendation’ is now open. Interested stakeholders are invited to provide their comments on the document using the feedback form available until 06 February 2026.

The draft guidance document provides general recommendations for applicants on developing protocols, collecting data and reporting information to support the assessment of feed ingredient effectiveness. It is the first of a series of guidance documents, that will further detail the information to be collected for regulatory submissions related to for feed ingredients that

  • have a technical effect in the feed,
  • have a nutritional effect for the animal,
  • influence animal aesthetics, qualities or production parameters,
  • affect the composition or characteristics of animal products.

The International Cooperation for the Convergence of Technical requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) was created in 2017. It was founded by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), the European Commission (DG SANTE)1 and the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA), and the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF).
