The International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) is pleased to present the guidance document ‘ADME Evaluation in the context of risk assessment of feed ingredients’.
In September 2021, an Expert Working Group composed of dedicated regulatory authority and industry experts from the founding ICCF members was created to develop a guidance document providing recommendations for the evaluation of ADME of feed ingredients, especially in the context of hazard assessment for consumer of animal products. The recommendations consider feed ingredients as a mixture of chemical substances (constituent entity) and are based, by default, on the weight of evidence approach (i.e. using read across, in silico models and in vitro studies). In vivo studies are only envisaged, when the weight of evidence approach does not provide sufficient information to conclude on the ADME characteristics of the relevant constituent entity.
The guidance document builds on existing international guidance documents and on the expertise and experience from a panel of experts drawn from the ICCF founding members.

About ICCF
The International Cooperation for the Convergence of Technical requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) was created in 2017. It was founded by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), the European Commission (DG SANTE – supported by EFSA)) and the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA), and the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF). The ICCF aims at developing science-based technical guidance documents supporting the feed industry in assessing their products and to aid in the preparation of pre-market assessment submissions.
