IFIF launches Biosecurity Guidance for Feed Mills

Sep 1, 2024

IFIF is pleased to announce that it has launched the ‘IFIF Biosecurity Guidance for Feed Mills’ document.

The Guidance document aims to support feed mills to effectively implement biosecurity practices by providing clear operating procedures and work instructions. As feed manufacturing and delivery are crucial components of the production chain, adopting strong biosecurity measures in this area is essential for reducing the risk of spreading pathogenic agents.

The ‘IFIF Biosecurity Guidance for Feed Mills’ includes not only biosecurity procedures in feed mills but also a practical checklist of recommended guidelines/SOPs/Protocols to assist in daily operations.

This biosecurity guidance was developed by a panel of IFIF experts from around the world and outlines best management practice that should be followed wherever possible and practicable to achieve the following objectives:

  • Protect feed mill operations against the entry of pathogenic agents and subsequent spread to animal operations.
  • Minimise the incidence and spread of microorganisms of public health significance.
  • Minimise the incidence and spread of microorganisms and pests that may impact national or international trade.
