Xiamen, China: Gao Hongbin, Chinese Vice Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the China Feed Industry Association (CFIA) and Mario Sergio Cutait, Chairman of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) met for the first time today in a sign of strong cooperation between the two organizations to officially open the China Feed Expo in Xiamen.
“It is an honor to be part of the opening ceremony for this important Feed Expo together with Vice Minister Gao,” said Mr. Cutait. “China is now together with the US the largest producer of compound animal feed in the world, and a vital player in our industry. Only by working together with the whole feed and food chain, including our partners at CFIA, can we meet the global challenge to feed 9 billion people by 2050 and to do so sustainably” Mr. Cutait added.
The China Feed Expo is the premier meeting ground for the whole feed chain active in China. This was an important opportunity for IFIF to discuss with Chinese regulators and industry key issues affecting the global feed industry, including the harmonization of effective international regulatory standards, cooperation on feed manufacturing and management best practices, and how to meet the sustainability challenge for food and feed.
In 2011, China produced 20%, or 178 million metric tons, of total compound feed production estimated at 873 million metric tons globally. Worldwide the industry is worth approximately US$ 350 billion.
